Something a little different

Treeswingers is a great promoter of the arts – and not just music. We’ve previously posted on some great music that just happened to be backing up some juggling, and we’re at it again already in 2012. Here is a RAC mix of Delorean‘s “Stay Close” supporting some fantastic juggling.

Treeswinger Radio Playlist 6/7/11

Adios!

Who knew the end could come so soon? With Charlie and I graduating, we enjoyed our last Treeswinger Radio show today on 90.1 FM KZSU Stanford. While we didn’t have Stephan Jenkins show up, it didn’t really matter as we jammed in the studio for the last time before leaving the Farm and heading out into the real world. This week’s show featured a Mr. Little Jeans cover of Arcade Fire’s “The Suburbs” and offerings from some of our favorite artists that we’ve played during our six month tenure at the station. Thanks to everyone for listening, and to KZSU for giving us the time slot to play our music for you. It’s been an amazing experience.

With two decades of work under his belt, Stephan Jenkins and his band, Third Eye Blind, were in for something of a homecoming on Thursday night. After having toured the world, Jenkins has had little time to come to a place he used to call home. Sitting down to talk with The Stanford Daily and Treeswingers with drummer Brad Hargreaves, the Third Eye Blind singer told us of how he made his mark here at the University, literally, and told of times when he used to call the campus his stomping ground. He also talked of past crushes from Branner Hall and his old exploits in the CoHo before his show at Memorial Auditorium for the Verizon Wireless’ Coffee Shop Series. The band then turned back the years, playing a energetic show in front of hundreds of students which drew heavily from their first, self-titled release.

The interview with the band and a full set list are below:

If you’re all still alive and kicking on the day of the second coming, another day of great live music at Stanford should be enough to coax you out of your basements and bomb shelters. Stanford’s first ever Laker Music Festival hits the field between the Enchanted Brocoli Forest and Kappa Alpha on Saturday starting at 2 p.m. as a slew of student acts and bonafide headliners should have you dancing your ass off before kissing it goodbye.

The school year has already seen the likes of Steve Aoki and Broken Social Scene grace campus, and Saturday hopes to continue the trend for great music and good vibes as Blackbird Blackbird, Lemaitre and The Juan MacLean bring their electronic stylings to the Farm. With Lake Lagunita providing the backdrop, there couldn’t be a more perfect setting to close out the year–or our lives, if you entertain the rumors of the rapture.

Fresh off a performance at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, Broken Social Scene played a much small–and colder–venue on Thursday night at Stanford University. Taking over a stage usually reserved for Zumba and the odd hacky sack get-together, the Canadian collective transformed the space just outside of Dinkelspiel Auditorium into a mini-festival offering to kick off Vision eARTh, the Farm’s first arts and sustainability festival.

Lead singer Kevin Drew called the night an “intimate affair,” before paying homage to the university, which he and his bandmates had spent wandering in the hours before the show. “You guys are very lucky,” he said, smiling under a pink beanie.
