Listen to Foster The People: Houdini (RAC Remix)

Party on, kids.

The Mondays: we’ve got a bad case of them. The only thing keeping the memory of the weekend from completely slipping through our fingers is this new upbeat remix from Portland’s  Remix Artist Collective. While we love nearly every Andre Anjos and Co. release and appreciate their style in keeping the “gems” of an original song intact in their remixes, we’ve found ourselves wanting more oomph beyond what this track already has to offer, especially from an outfit whose artistry is as innovative and awesome as RAC. Perhaps that’s why we dig this mix of Foster the People’s ”Houdini”— it’s a fresh and unique new spin on the already bouncy tune, helping us get through the work day.

There’s a good chance we’ll be playing this on repeat until Friday. You should do the same.

‘Tis the season of giving and what better gift than that of music?  Popscene has always been a home to spectacular artists and for the holidays the venue at 330 Ritch St.–soon to change to Rickshaw Stop– presented us with RAC. Known for their phenomenal remixes of the top independent artists, the Portland DJ duo of Karl Kling and Andre Anjos gave us a much needed break from non-stop holiday shopping and music.

Tokyo Police Club Gets the RAC Treatment. Again.

André Allen Anjos, founder of Remix Artist Collective (RAC), returns with his sixth remix of Tokyo Police Club, this time replacing the frenetic guitar line of “Wait Up (Boots of Danger)” with his trademark keyboard and synth hooks. Similar to his “Sweet Disposition” mix, RAC keeps Dave Monks’ vocals largely intact, instead building up off the keyboard chords in the original chorus. The resulting pop mix finally answers the pressing question of what would happen if Tokyo Police Club rode the Osaka Loop Line.

The Temper TRAC: Sweet Disposition (RAC Mix)

You’ve heard “Sweet Disposition.”  You’ve probably heard a remix of it.  You haven’t heard one this good.  Intelligently leaving the vocals almost untouched, André Allen Anjos, better known as The Remix Artist Collective (RAC), shows off his ability to remix while still recognizing what really makes the song in the first place.  RAC has actually established a precedent for leaving the basic structure of songs unmixed, creating a feeling of progress with his mixes, not one of cutting and pasting individual noises from songs.  The style is clearly evident in this remix of The Temper Trap.  Is there any reason to listen to the original any more?
