Something a little different

Treeswingers is a great promoter of the arts – and not just music. We’ve previously posted on some great music that just happened to be backing up some juggling, and we’re at it again already in 2012. Here is a RAC mix of Delorean‘s “Stay Close” supporting some fantastic juggling.

Remix Artist Collective’s (RAC) André Anjos is in high demand. Remixing for indie rock royalty the likes of Radiohead, Phoenix and Arcade Fire, a remix by Anjos is sure to be high on any self-respecting new band’s holiday wish list. Brooklyn’s Body Language can cross that item off early this year. Revving up “Holiday” and adding a new wave quality to it with ethereal and distorted vocals, Anjos manages to turn one of the overlooked tracks from the band’s freshman effort, Social Studies, into a warm, upbeat cosmos previously unexplored.

RAC smashes and rebuilds “1979″

There’s nothing better than when two of your favorite things collide. So when Remix Artist Collective decided to drop a cover of Smashing Pumpkins’ “1979,” there was no reason not to post (even if this blog has become something of an RAC sounding board). We figure as long as good stuff keeps coming from André Allen Anjos and company, we’ll duly oblige.

With Anjos’ wife, Liz, providing angelic vocals to replace Billy Corgan’s gruffness and glittery synths filling in for those familiar chords progressions, this 2011 interpretation is (new) New Wave and wouldn’t be a tad out of place on any one of John Hughes’ films. As one of his first mp3s, “1979″ has a special place in Anjos’ heart. With a cover this good, that’s readily apparent.

BFD at Shoreline Amphitheatre 6/5/11

The 2011 incarnation of Big Fucking Deal Festival, or BFD, proved to be eclectic as ever. Threatened early by ominous clouds, the festival was lucky to escape rain on a gloomy June afternoon. The crowd–whose members ran the gamut from teeny booper to over-the-hillers–were just as lucky, treated to a lineup that could cater to any audio palate. From the hash-fueled rhymes of Snoop Dogg to local favorites, The Limousines, BFD at Mountain View’s Shoreline Amphitheatre had the tastes of the Bay covered. While some was left to be desired by the closely arranged stages, which often caused for sound clashes and disgruntled artists, Live 105′s crown jewel had our ears ringing into Monday morning with plenty of memorable moments.

Is Tonight That Kind of Night?

We at Treeswingers have been a big fan of Andre Anjos or as many may know as RAC, the man behind the beautiful remixes.  Fortunately this Sunday, we have the opportunity to see him again live at Live 105′s annual BFD festival.  Just in time for that he has released a  remix of, another favorite band of ours, Noah and The Whale’s “Tonight’s That Kind Of Night.”  Deviating from RAC’s once complex and layered remixes, Anjos delivers another simple late-night, summer-drive tune that’ll definitely put you in high spirits.  That is, if tonight’s that kind of night.
