We are big fans of Bay Area hero Bassnectar here at treeswingers and found ourselves dumfounded after listening to this remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Lights.” Known for his dramatic dubstep soundscapes, Bassnectar, aka Lorin Ashton, clashes the best of two polar audio opposites. Floating the angelic voice of the indie pop queen over the track, Ashton tears down the vocal serenity by slamming down his trademark dark sub bass. It’s a killer.
The track, yet to be played at Bassnectar’s live sets, can be heard around the West Coast as Ashton launches his tour today in Petaluma. You can catch him at local shows:
2/01/11 Petaluma @ the Phoenix Theater
2/02/11 Eureka @ Redwood Acres
2/10/11 Santa Cruz @ Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium
You can also catch Ellie Goulding as she makes her SF debut in April at Popscene. She plays on April 14 before her Coachella date at Rickshaw Stop with The Knocks.
